Fourthguides Weekend Autumn 2019 - Talks and Workshops

Simon Kershaw

Groups: A force for good?

In this interactive session, Simon will lead a discussion about the potential benefits and dangers of operating within groups – be they for social, business or other purposes, or organisations encompassing a membership of thousands or more, operating as a hierarchy or cluster of smaller organisations. Expect to be challenged over your perspectives of some well known but widely misunderstood organisations. The overall theme will be about harnessing the benefits of multiple perspectives so that the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts, maintaining personal integrity and sovereignty whilst recognising where some compromise may be appropriate, and avoiding the dangers of complacency and group think.

An engineer by profession, Simon spent many years leading major aerospace infrastructure and business change projects in both public and private sectors and both nationally and internationally. He is a strong believer that wisdom and knowledge acquired through life should be shared for the benefit of others and of society, and offers to guide others where this may help them. He also believes in the benefits of a healthy curiosity and of constructive challenge of the status quo, and of adopting a collaborative as opposed to confrontational approach in interpersonal dynamics.
